Presentation

The Master's programme in Building Refurbishing and Restoration Works develops formative activities aimed at providing the necessary capacities and skills for the implementation and management of building refurbishing works. Its main field of work is the dwelling stock from XIX and XX centuries and the conservation and restoration works of architectural heritage.

This Master's programme is designed as a full and consistent proposal whose main goal is to offer high quality expert knowledge and training, both in technical development and in the working process management areas, for Refurbishing and Restoration works.

The programme includes four modules comprising close-set related subjects. Criteria for module selection are based on content proximity. All of them being strongly linked to professional practice on the previously mentioned profiles.

The programme takes two semesters, that is, one academic year . In the first semester students will learn the rudiments and techniques related to procurement of projects and to the management of the main variables involved in the process (Module 1).

Later on, students take the contents specifically oriented to building refurbishment in different environments (Module 2).

Working environment of Architectural Heritage buildings is different from the former, and this knowledge constitutes Module 3.

The training process concludes with a Master Thesis supervised by a professor/researcher of the programme (Module 4). Students will have to write and present their Thesis to a reading committee.

From the very first moment, familiarizing students with these business techniques will be a primary goal. A set of professional workshops will be held simultaneously to lectures in order to reach this goal, and to bring university closer to companies’ requirements. With this aim in mind, every subject will require students to develop a professional study case for their academic qualification. Finally, specialized companies in this field will be present with short-term seminars as a complement to lectures.
